Creative Technology + Music Fundamentals
Production Playground serves homeschool and charter school families in San Diego, CA with enrichment classes that teach music fundamentals alongside modern music production. Students learn how music works (rhythm, melody, harmony, form) and how to create it using GarageBand with real instruments for sampling and experimentation.

Music Fundamentals + Music Production (our approach)
Production Playground teaches students how music works and how to produce it—in a way that is hands-on, age-appropriate, and immediately applied.
Music Fundamentals
Rhythm- steady beat, counting, groove, patterns, style differences
Melody- music alphabet, step/skip motion, motifs/hooks, pitch direction
Harmony- chords as musical support, simple progressions, “lift” between sections
Form & Composition- intro/verse/chorus/bridge, contrast, transitions, endings
Listening Skills- identifying instruments, sections, texture, and energy
Production Skills
Creating Beats- drum tools, recording, editing, loop building
Arranging Songs- turning ideas into full structures
Sound Design & Sampling- recording real instruments and sounds, Shaping timbre
Mixing Basics- balance, panning, space, reverb, EQ, delay
Exporting & Sharing- saving correctly, exporting audio, performance prep
The Results: students aren’t just pushing buttons, they’re learning musical concepts and using them to create original work.
